Approaching the end ..

The solution we propose reflects what we had initially thought, and what was assumed in the design brief.
The main problem was the not clear definition of roles and strategies for the acquisition of funds.
By the time we learned about the association and the members and this has helped us to find a solution that would satisfy them and that would be in line with the mission.
With regard to the problem of planning and research funds and resources we thought the inclusion of a new figure on the staff that will monitor calls to raise funds and to coordinate and manage the network of collaborations with organizgruppoations that deal with training and team building.
While the issue of economic sustainability, in order to achieve the goal of using the ship more days than not you’re doing (150 days / year), increasing profitability, our solution is to move toward activities that may allow the association to grow in a sustainable way by developing a business model compatible with the values of the same. In fact,  we have proposed to the organization conducting team building courses to play with brokers who deal with corporate training.
In the next few days we’ll work out all the work done so far trying to create a presentation that face to better understand what we have done to ensure that our solutions bring the desired benefits.

Hello guys, in this post i would like tell you our experience in La Spezia. We came in La spezia the 5 of may in order to know better Nave di Carta reality, its volunteers and the port in which they moor boats.  We interviewed Marco and other people who work with him: we used all this material for the second deliverable. In fact the video that we showed to you tell about their passion, devotion but also their problems. This experience has allowed us to understand better what is Nave di Carta, how they work and how it is structured the association (at the start of the project it was not so clear). Luckily we have not done large errors in the first evaluation, but after several “Why?” and a lot of other questions, our understanding became extremely deep.

For the assembly of the shooting Alfredo has been  indispensable, he is a real “monster” with iMovie and he made the video really interesting (with music always at the right time); to make the presentation, instead, we used a new tool called Prezi, that in the beginning with his animations has made us “seasickness” but that proved to be much more dynamic and engaging than usual Power Point. It was not easy to develop the presentation, organizing ideas of 5 people is not simple, but in the end it has turned out a very good job. With regard the infographic, however, participate in the workshop has really helped us: none of us knew how to do it and have the guidelines (easel), given during the two meetings, has allowed us to create one very nice!

We are pleased with our results in this second deliverable, particularly the fact that our work has been appreciated by the other groups.

We will keep doing our best!

stay tuned

BPE is like …. a F1 race!Image
A lot of drivers and everyone wants to win, but it is going to be tough

It requires preparation that reflects all the hard work I put into this challenge. Obviously in the end you will obtain your result in any case, so if you worked well you will achieve your goals.

I’m trying to use any knowledge that BPE teaches, in order to optimize the work I’m putting on my challenge Nave di Carta.

Hopefully we will get a win 🙂

Stay tuned,

BPE is like…

For me the course of BPE is like …. a bicycle race.

??????????????????????

Tackling this course I feel like a professional cyclist who faces a tough, long, difficult, challenging race. When I arrive at the finish line of this race, I’m sure that I will be satisfied.

The satisfactions of which I speak are related to the knowledge that I have acquired at the end of the course that will allow me to  have a broader view on organizations and to understand more specifically  how they are structured, how to understand their needs, how to re-design them, how to measure their performance etc.

However the largest teaching that this course is transmitting is related to the importance of innovative thinking  within an organization.

These skills are returning useful in resolving the challenge “La Nave di Carta” together with my team. Just like in a real race bike where collaboration between the members of a team is essential   (cycling is a team sport more than you might think!) I believe it is very important the positive climate that has developed within my team. I think this is the basis for doing a good job and their  thanks to this each member is providing a growing contribution along the way.

A great challenge needs a great start: Nave di Carta Design Brief

OUR DESIGN BRIEF VISION

The design brief is a document that contains information about a general problem; usually it gives detailed data about the scenario of the challenge, considering what could be limitations and constraints. Furthermore it clarifies what are aspirations and goals that we want to achieve, introducing those that can be valid tools to measure performances.

We think that it will be very useful in future when the complexity of the problem will spontaneously increase due to the emergence of new actors, new problems to be faced and new constraints to be respected.

DESIGN BRIEF

Organization: La nave di carta

Project Name: Ri-partiamo? L’avventura e il problema di lasciare un porto sicuro

Team: Team 8

Scenario:

olo

The “Nave di Carta” is an association founded in 1998 to promote and popularize sea and sailing culture. Following the meeting with Exodus foundation of Island of Elba, it has expanded its horizon in order to empower its potential as an educational driver for young people, prevention and recovery, social, physical and psychic diseases. By the time, this social nuance has more and more become strongly important for the mission, focusing on educational dynamics such as Team Building and the formation of the character of the individual.

Currently the association has over thirty members and is coordinated by the directive council, which includes 5 people; thanks to the collaboration with the publishing house “Ugo Mursia Editore”, Nave di Carta get riched also from a cultural point of view.

The organization, in collaboration with the Department of Città dei Giovani, the Department of Education of La Spezia, Comune di Portovenere and Lerici and Regione Toscana, gave birth to projects of educational cruises that involved more than a thousand students of primary and secondary schools which were boarded on the two ships of the association : the goletta Oloferne and the ketch Mariangela .

The initiatives undertaken by the association take place in the north area of the Tirrean Sea and are leaning to the port of Porto Venere.

The Nave di Carta is a founding member of the Unione Vela Solidale.

 Innovation intent

We will attempt to make the association more sustainable and efficient while keeping intact the organization values, re-thinking the main assets and processes.

Aspirations – What will be nice to have?

Currently, the organizational structure has some gaps that have a significant effect on the same. In particular, there is no clear definition of roles and strategies for the acquisition and financing of new projects. The members who work within the association are for the most part volunteers who give their time when possible. We want to achieve an organization that can boast of close-knit and motivated staff, effective and solid  organizational processes, presence and development of human and economic resources of the territory.

Intentions – What should be the goals?

  • Re-organization of the internal hierarchy:
Clear definition of roles and responsibilities are required.  Actually there is much confusion about assigning tasks and responsibilities so everyone feels free to carry out the tasks they prefer.
  • Development of strategies for economic sustainability:
No money means no organizational activities.
  • Strengthening the relationship between the organization and local institutions:
it is important in order to increase projects number and funding.
  • Creating a sense of belonging and affiliation of the members:
All members are volunteers so it is important to create participation and support.

Limitations – what are the constraints?

  • Lack of an operational headquarters:
The members haven’t an adequate meeting place where organizing activities.
  • Limited participation of members:
They are volunteers so you can’t ask them to do everything.
  • Limited economic resources:
Money comes mainly from projects done

Assumptions – what is given for granted?

Some external relations are not challenged but are given for granted, this effect may lead to sub-optimal solutions. Furthermore the fully availability of the president Tibiletti is taken for granted and it induce members to a lesser commitment.

Performances – what can we measure?

  • Amount of funding from sponsorships, announcements and public resources
  • Annual revenue of the activities
  • Number of times of the same project in a year:

This indicator measures the success of a single project

  • User rating
  • Attendance of members in organized activities:

The contribution of some members can be fickle so we have to consider their presence at the organized activities in order to understand the membership to the association.

THE MAKING OF OUR DESIGN BRIEF: DIFFICULTIES AND CHALLENGES

Initially, a problem was that we did not have enough information about the organization. So we decided to call one more time Marco Tibiletti (president of the association) and
go deep in the conversation, in order to obtain any data that we may need.
The main difficulty was, after collecting all available information, to synthesize and place within the scheme of the design brief was to be concise and clear. Five-thinking people would do this in five different ways, but we had to agree upon a common version. We have had experience of working as a team is more demanding in terms of time and energy but much more productive in times of results.

This is the POWER of team!

Davide Maramotti

Hi guys,

my name is Davide, I’m 23 years old and I live in Scandiano (RE) since I was born.

I’m interested in everything that concerns the web and new technologies and I love sports (especially soccer, which I practice)  because of the emotions that can transmit.

I’m studying management engineering and I’m a student not particularly brilliant but very organized! I hope I can apply some of the knowledge learned in these more than three years of university in this course.

I’m very curious to see how my team (team 8) will complete the challenge (La Nave di Carta) because it presents many difficulties due to the lack of funds but I’m convinced that we will get some satisfaction and we will have fun.

Filippo Bugli Giovanardi

338Hi everyone,
I’m Filippo and I’m turning 24 in September. I live in Sassuolo since I was born and I took my degree in Management Engineering last year.
I’m a shy and private person.

I play football since I was a kid, but my favorite sports are Basketball and Formula 1. Derrick Rose and Lewis Hamilton are my sports idol as they rappresent humbleness and pure talent.
My favorite hobby is photography, especially portrait photography. I would spend hour and hour shooting and this comes along with my passion to travel. I will see any place in the world as long as my wallet will allow me.
Alessandro Baricco is my favorite writer.

I find Business Process Engineering very interesting. I think this class can give us important tools that can allow us to understand the world as it is going forward. I like the creative approach that this course teach and also workshops can be useful in the future.

My team is working on ‘Nave di Carta’ challenge. It is complicated but with a great team effort we can do a great job and I’m really confident about it.
The association promote maritime culture in a lot of different ways, such as social recovery and in my opinion this is a value added to the organization itself, I like it.

The best is yet to come,
Stay tuned.

Hello I am Maria Saldutti, I’m 24 years old, I’m studying management engineering at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and for six months I live in Bologna.

I love Bologna and the life outside but I hate the train. What I love most of all is cooking (and especially eating!) and my great dream if I do not find work as an management engineer is to open a local where you can drink and eat WELL.

About  my university career I did an apprenticeship of 3 months, with a thesis annexed, in a company during which we did a revamping of the system and it has been a very nice experience, but in the future I hope to occupy the logistics and production planning.

My challenge is “La nave di carta”, it seems interesting but also very demanding but I will give all in order to succeed.

About the other challenges of course what I would have preferred to happen to me is “Mercato della Terra”, and you can imagine why!

Team 8: week 1

Hi guys,NaveCarta05

We started working on our challenge and it was immediatly clear that it is strongly difficult, but at the same super exciting.
Nave di Carta has great cultural and social goals but it needs a new internal organization.

The location is awesome and we cannot wait to be there eating good fish with a great view on Cinque Terre!!
We want to give our best contribute to Nave di Carta in order to lighten their workload by re-organizing structure.

In collaboration with the association we expect to learn about design processing and improve our skills
thanks to the interaction with experts in that field.

The best is yet to come!

Take care,
Stay tuned
